Your Head Shot Session FAQ

Professional head shots can be provided both in studio and on location for business, actors, entertainers, performers or anyone looking to update their head shot.

A Few Tips - For Your Head Shot Session & Some FAQ’s

  • This is so you have have a little more time to get ready for the session, relax and consider the headshots you need as well as take a little time to relax post session and select your image or images and confirm we have got what is needed for you and your brand/business.

  • Nothing worse than feeling rushed and just or having no options. Take a little time if you can to plan your outfits for the session, is it a branded uniform or something uniquely you.. after all you are your brand.

It really pays off to have the right look, feel good and feel like the real you.

For actors and performers this is of course a little different but a lot still applies. Do you need a particular look for your book or maybe a certain style for your theatre work VS on screen work. Once we have figured out what you are looking for it is all down to shoot day.

A few options outfit wise is always good to have on hand including footwear, I always say if you are selling a brand or look let’s go all in including the foot wear you would be surprised how much impact it can have from how to stand to how you feel.

Try to avoid large clothing brand logo’s or busy patterns on clothing unless it says something about you you wish to convey in your head shots.

  • If your business or brand requires a particular background colour please let me know in advance as it may need to be ordered in for your session, please note that this will be a billed item.

I tend to have white, grey, black and some colours at the studio but the selection of colours may change over time so it is best to give me a nudge when we first chat about your head shot session.

Delivery times for ordered backgrounds may also vary depending on order placement day/time.

I have some examples of the backgrounds at the studio later on this page.

  • I am sure you would not do this but try not to go painting the town read the nigh tbefore if you can help it as it may affect how you feel as well as eyes and skin the following day.

  • Thankfully not done by myself but yes I can. Please let me know ahead of time and provide some time to get HMUA (Hair & Makeup Artist) booked in. The higher end packages have more time to allow for this.

If you wish to have HMUA at your session they will usually provide Hair and Makeup at the start before we shoot. Please provide an idea of the look you would like and if you have example images that can also help.

The HMUA will style your hair and Makeup whilst I provide the refreshments. I may also grab a few BTS shots for social media if you are ok with that.

  • I totally understand. No problem we will start with a simple chat to get to know and I will walk you through the process.

I got you. Please do’’t worry.

  • Absolutely. Whilst it is best to bring outfits ready from home if something get’s a little wrinkled on the day we can iron or steam to remove them no problem.

I also have link rollers for those woof box or cat hairs and blotting pads for skin should they be needed.

  • Skin can be naturally oily and everyone is different.

It is best to avoid overly oily moisturisers a few days before the session as these can cause break outs and also shiny skin.

Grab a shave should you wish to a day or so before and go over again the morning of lightly to reduce any chance of rash or skin irritation.

Dead skin will show on camera so an clean and exfoliation may help with that ready for your head shot session.

Fake tan can take a while to settle and changes in skin tones will definitely be shown on camera.

  • No problem if you do but it may be worth cleaning the lens and frames the day before, you will be surprised what they can pick up. If you have them please bring a lens cloth just in-case we get an finger prints on the lenses.
